Gross Description:
The specimen is received fresh labeled with the patient's name,
medical record number and designated as "bone biopsy left first
metatarsal" and consists of multiple irregular fragments of tan-brown
soft to osseous tissue in aggregate measuring 1.5 x 0.6 x 0.3 cm in
aggregate. A touch prep is performed. The specimen is entirely
submitted in one cassette following decalcification.

Intraoperative Consultation:
Bone biopsy left first metatarsal (FS): Normal hematopoietic cells
identified. No malignant cells identified. (Diagnosis based on
touch preps). Received at 5:36 PM and reported intraoperatively to
Dr. at 5:42 PM by Dr. on 2/7/13.

Provider has coded 88107, 88311, 88331. Shouldn't last code be 88334?

88307 for the bone biopsy (Perhaps you have a typo. You wrote 88107)
88311 for the decalcification
88331 is for a frozen section, so that is incorrect

Intraoperative consult is 88329. Touch prep is 88333. If the case is Medicare, you can't use both codes. Our docs typically choose the intraoperative consult code, but choosing 88333 alone is also correct.

88334 is an add-on code for additional site and has to be used with 88331 or 88333.
