I'm just wondering what kind of patient payment policies other practices have?? Our new boss is stating that we will no longer take payments. It is due in full upon first statement, or 50% the first month, and 50% the following month. Other than that if they don't agree to our options they will go to collections. I'm having a hard time with this, and I would think this would cause us to potentially lose a lot of buisness. As we see a lot of return patients. Not to mention we see a high volume of cancer patients. What type of payment policies does your offce offer?? Any info is much appreciated.

My office does work with patient's within reason. If they express a concern for their copay or co-insurance we do have them fill out a financial hardship form and then ask what they can within reason afford to pay. As we usually are a specialist being and OT office we allow patient's to pay half of what their copays and create a balance and then when they have completed their therapy I sit down with them and work out a payment agreement for their balance. They have to have a credit card on file but we explain we do not charge it unless they do not return or pay on their balance.
