I have a patient who was unable to tolerate the prep for her colonoscopy visit to the gastroenterologist. The patient came in just to see one of our nurse practitioners for advice on alternatives to the prep for the colonoscopy as she had to reschedule due to nausea/vomitting from the prep. Can anyone recommend a diag for something like this? My first thought was V65.49 but I wanted to see if anyone had suggestions on a more appropriate code?

If I understand the scenario properly, perhaps V64.1 surgical or other procedure not carried out because of contraindication would be appropriate to report in addition to the symptoms (nausea/vomiting). To tell the whole story, the sequencing might look like this...
787.01 nausea and vomiting
V64.1 procedure not carried out because of contraindication
V65.49 other counseling/advice
