I have a provider that admitted a pt to telemetry at 4am for chest pain on 7/6/2008 for additional workup. Would this be an observation (99218-99220) code? or an actual admit code (99221-99223)? Pt was then discharged the next day 7/7/2008 - so it could also be admit/discharge same day because it was within 24 hours. Any input would be greatly apprechiated. Thx
 
Admit/Discharge Same Day

To use the 99234-99236 code the admit/discharge must be on the same calendar date.

If you admitted the patient on 04/06 and discharged on 04/07 you would NOT use these codes.
