Hello,
I am looking for some guidance on what is the age cutoff on using pediatric versus adult BMI codes. Per ICD-10 notes "BMI adult codes are for use for persons 21 years of age or older. BMI pediatric codes are for use for persons 2-20 years of age. These percentiles are based on the growth charts published by the CDC". However, per CDC definitions, their adult BMI calculator is for adults age 20 years or older, and pediatric is 2 to 19. Since our providers do their own coding, we are having issues writing a logic for our EHR to guide the provider to choose from the pediatric vs. adult based on age. (for example, for a 8YO patient, system will prompt percentiles whereas a 55 YO patient, system will prompt adult BMI calculation) For a 19 year old patient, provider would document adult BMI but we would actually code it as percentiles. We are not sure whether we should put 19 or 20 as the pediatric cutoff so that the system will prompt the appropriate set of BMI codes.

Anyone run into this issue? I appreciate any help with this!
