If a provider undercodes what are the possible penalties? In my research I see that they can be charged with non compliance with Medicare, but I'm unable to find out the penalties.
The false claim act states any person who knowingly submits, or causes to be submitted a false or fraudulent claim to the Federal Government. Since the provider is undercoding then I'm assuming that he wouldn't be responsible for 3X the $ amount of each claim. Would the provider be charged $11,000 per false claim?
