If a Physician Assistant sees establised patients at one of our clinic sites becuase the physician is not able to be there, can we bill for this. I was told that if you put the physician assistant down as the servicing provider and the physician as the billing provider this can be done. Also that the service will be paid between 11% and 80% depending on the insurance carrier. Please Advise.....
 
You need to check the PA scope of practice for your state, specifically the parts pertaining to supervision, if those requirements are met and you are billing under the PA's NPI then you should be okay, however if you wish to bill under the MD's NPI, you will need to meet incident to guidelines and in this case since the MD is not in the office, you would be unable to bill incident to.
