Can ER/ED physicians bill Medicare Directly when working in a CAH.

From my research, i believe it depends on the physician contract with the hospital.

Thanks in advance

Mike

I believe you need to check to see which method of payment the CAH set up with Medicare, either Method 1 or Method 2. We are a Method 1 CAH and we are allowed to bill our physican charges seperately.

We are a CAH with a Rural health clinic and bill method II. Our providers are employed by the hospital and for medicare patients when a providers sees a patient in the ER we bill the professional charges on the UB with the hospital charges.
