Can anyone tell me how long a physician's order is good for? I work in an outpatient cancer center. I came across a set of orders dated over a year ago, those orders are still being used, with patient labels being added when the account number of the patient changes. The physician did document in the note to continue current drug. Is this acceptable practice?
 
I'm not sure if there is a limit on a physician's order. If it is currently being updated it may be ok, but if you are in doubt you could consider asking for an updated one from the referring physician.
