Are there guidelines on "backdating" physician orders for labs, ekgs, radiology, etc??? I'm being told that it's fine to backdate orders, but it doesn't sound right. Could someone direct me to where it says that it is or isn't allowed? Thanks in advance!

OIG Civil Monetary Penalty law

Use of falsified records, which backdating orders create, to obtain payment for services will fall under the OIG Civil Monetary Penalty Law. There are several references in the Federal Register and other areas - this link is from the OIG site and from there one can research which parts of the statutes would apply to them with this question of backdating orders. But that type of documentation is viewed as falsifying records in the eyes of auditors.
