Some of our surgeons keep entering the dx for what the patient had surgery for (i.e. cholecystitis) vs the post op dx codes of V58.XX. I looked at ICD-10 guidelines & couldn't find anything to support the V%* codes. I realize it's not going to an insurance company, but I still would like to know.
 
If the surgery treated the condition or resolved the problem, then you'd only use the appropriate V code.
