 I have this patient that has rectal cancer that was resected along with resection of the posterior vaginal wall and reconstruction. Now patient returns for I & D inpatient for vaginal wall abscess from a suture line that tore. I am unsure how to code this diagnosis. If I look at Abscess-Vaginal if refers me to "Vaginitis".

I am thinking either:
N99.81 Other intraoperative complication of genitourinary system---or---
T81.32 Disruption of internal operation (surgically) wound, NEC.

Any GYN experts--your help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

I'm not a GYN coder but this is what I came up with:

It wouldn't be N99.81 since its a post op (during recovery period ) not an inter-operative (something went wrong while patient was under)

I'm torn between

T81.32XA - Disruption of internal operation (surgical) wound, not elsewhere classified, initial encounter

&

N99.89 - Other postprocedural complications and disorders of genitourinary system

I think the T code would be more specific than the N code.

The actual complication Vaginitis (as directed by index for vaginal wall abscess) as secondary Or third).
