How do code for a post op service being performed by different physician?
There is an out of town patient that is coming to live with her children and she had surgery out of town before she left. Now she needs to have a post op visits.
In my research with CMS Modifier 55 that can be used to indicate there is a difference with the provider, but also the surgeon must me contacted by our provider to advise he is taking over care.

Please advise if I am on the right path.

Thank you

IF there is a transfer of care:
1) Surgeon bills surgery CPT with -54.
2) New doc bills surgery CPT with -55.
If there is no transfer of care, then you bill E/M.
