Hi,

Is there a diagnosis code to represent a post-operative wound to both upper and lower extremities that does NOT have an infection? I have a patient that had severe septicemia and with it significant vascular compromise to all extremities. I do not want to use that these are open wounds but rather they are healing wounds. The patient is an infant and therefore all of the dressing changes have been done under anesthesia. The infants wounds are now on the mend but I can't find a code to represent that. Can anyone offer their suggestions/opinions?

Thanks!

I would use the wound, open, site code for both upper and lower extremity. If it were infected you would use the complicated code under each site...since it is not, you are safe to use the "regular" open wound code. There is a seperate code for a non-healing wound so it would not apply to your scenerio of healing wounds.
