We are looking for the ICD-10 code(s) appropriate for coding diabetic retinopathy in a patient who under went a pancreas transplant.

The retinopathy codes in ICD-10 are now combination codes describing the diabetes.

Following a pancreas transplant, if no medications are needed to control the patient's blood sugar, does the diagnosis of diabetes still apply?

There are several articles online that indicate diabetes is not truly "cured" by this procedure and the patient may need to be monitored for several years to determine the diabetic status.

Any information you can provide would be appreciated.

You will need to code from the documentation or query the physician. If the physician documents that the patient has diabetes, then it should be coded. Medications are not the only requirement for treatment. If the patient is being monitored or having follow up exams, then the condition is still under treatment.
