I have a cardiologis that provides pre and post op care for his patients that have a pacemaker placed or a revision done. The Cardiologist that performs the procedure is billing with a 54 modifier and my Cardiologist is billing with a 55 modifier on the same dos with the same procedure code. My doc only gets about $30 (Medicare) for this.
My question is what about subsquent hospital days or when the patient comes in for a follow up within the 90 day global. Does my doc get to bill for any of these days?
My physician never actually reliquishes care of the patient. He admits the patient to the hospital has a surgical Cardiologist place the pacemaker and then he takes over again.
