When a patient comes in for a pre-op exam before a procedure and a pregnancy test is done. Which diagnosis do you use?

Z01.818-encounter for other preprocedural examination
Or
Z32.0x-encounter for pregnancy test

Thanks,
Alicia, CPC

We wouldn't be doing that testing ourselves, but for the hospital PST, we supply the order with Z01.812 encounter for preprocedural laboratory examination. The patient is coming in for the test because they are having the surgery, so I feel Z01 is more appropriate than Z32.
I glanced at the guidelines, but didn't see something specifically stating this.
