Pt was seen with Orthopaedic surgeon ( a week ago) decision for surgery was decided for 2 weeks from now. Pt came in to see the PA today for H&P for the procedure in aweek. Is this H&P valid for payment or is it included in the 'global' I know it is usually a day before procedure, but just want to check and see what other opinions are. Thanks for your help!

There is no "global" reference here. Prior to surgery the patient must be cleared by their PCP. Usually the PCP will clear the patient. However, there are times when the PCP will not clear the patient due something else going on with the patient. Surgery is postponed. Once the patient is better, a new surgery date is set. Another pre-op visit is needed. If a patient is not cleared for surgery, I do not code for the pre-op clearance.
