Does anyone know if for commercial carriers such as Oxford?..if a pt has some bleeding from hemmorhoids, but no other symptoms..and is coming for first colonoscopy..do the hemmorhoids make it diagnostic, even before the procedure is done? or is that incidental, and will not change the procedure?..also if a polyp is found in colon, then can I still code as V76.51 211.3 in that order? so pt won't have to pay in network deductible and will be considered as preventative? not sure..read medicare info on this and still not sure.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.:)

Is the doctor 100% sure the bleeding is from the hemmorhoids? Can he/she see that? Does he/she state anywhere in the notes pt has rectal bleeding and that is an indication for the procedure?

If the bleeding is incidental to the hemmorhoids and the doctor is not treating the bleeding/or source and the only indication they state is screening, then yes, it's a screening.

And you are correct on the dx coding. V76.51 followed by any findings.

Thanks for the info. I don't know for sure if the bleeding was incidental, didn't sound like it was a big concern of the doctor's for this patient.
