Our office was advised to use E/M codes for preventative visits for patients with Medicaid. The preventive codes 99381-99397 are now listed on the medicaid fee schedule for 2016. Does this mean that cpt codes 99381-99397 should be reported for preventive visits? Getting conflicting info and trying to get clarification on how to bill. Thanks

Unless your state Medicaid gives you a policy in writing, you should bill all services with the correct CPT code. So only if directed by Medicaid in your state to bill a preventive with a regular visit code, should you do so. Otherwise you should always use the preventive codes.
