A maternity patient in her 1st trimester came in office because she fell down 3 steps and landed on her buttock. After exam, it appeared that she was
not injured. The PRIMARY dx code we billed was W10.8XXA & it rejected electronically saying "The PRINCIPAL dx does not allow external cause of injury codes that begin with V,W,X or Y. Any suggestions as to what other PRINCIPAL code we may use?
 
Maybe you could try Z71.1, Z3A.XX, then your W code and any other codes that are necessary. Hope that helps


We have had success with this primary code in cases like this.
