I work for a private practice pathologist
When the referring physician sends an annual routine pap smear along with HPV, gonorrhea, and chlamydia testing all using the code Z01.419; if a STD or other test has a positive result… when we (the lab) submit a claim should the positive dx be on the claim? And should it be first?

Was the STD testing performed for screening purposes or was the patient symptomatic with say a vaginal discharge. If the test was performed as a screening with no symptoms then you do need to report the screening code, the results can be listed as a secondary
