I'm looking for some guidance on billing for a proctoring surgeon. I code for a family practice clinic where some of my physicians perform cesareans at the neighboring hospital. We obviously only bill for the professional charges of those physicians. I recently encountered an operative note where my physician proctored the cesarean while another physician (not part of our practice) performed the procedure. My physician's note indicates: "Procedure was a proctoring procedure. Dr. ABC did most of the primary surgery proctored by myself." There is a full operative note describing the whole procedure. Does anyone have any guidance on billing for this with some supporting documentation? I appreciate any leads. Thank you.
