A new gastroenterologist in our practice is being proctored by another physician. Do we bill under the new physician? Seems like a stupid question. I just want to be sure.

If we are going by the general understanding of physician proctoring "Proctoring is an objective evaluation of a physician's clinical competence by a proctor who represents and is a responsible medical staff member." This means that the new physician is rendering the service and signing the medical records. The proctor normally just reviews the service or record and provides guidance. But the proctor is generally not the provider rendering the service.

If this is the case, then you would bill under the new physician as they are a licensed provider treating the patient and signing the chart as accurate.
