Looking for some additional information related to documentation review for extensive medical records (prolonged non-face-to-face service 99358). Can a provider delegate this task to their nurse practitioner? Example would be the Physician sees a new patient, records are obtained several days later. The extensive records were reviewed by the NP and documented in the chart to future visits.

I realize that the provider can bill for this if the review meets the time requirements, but my question is can the NP bill for this since she does not have a face to face visit with the patient, nor does she have one scheduled. The NP does often see the providers patients, but there is no way of knowing if or when she might.

I am sorry, I am not an expert. I would say that you can bill for it because NP is the servicing provider but the Billing provider will be the one who saw the pt face to face. so, they are related. Again, it's just my reasoning without any source of information.
