Our protimes have been denied for dx since we've switched to ICD10. I've been using I48.91 for Afib. Is it because that is the unspecified code? HELP!

I believe you must code first the Long term treatment of the condition Z79.01

You need to code for both the reason for anticoagulation use (A.fib, chronic DVT, Hx of PE) and then Z79.01 status code.
Also, for Medicare a QW modifier is required.

Thanks for the feedback! I hadn't included the Z79.01 on the few that had been denied. Adding it and sending back out...thanks

To code for a visit for a PT due to the anticoagulant drug you should use the Z51.81 first the Z79.01 next and third the chronic condition.

Z51.81 - Encounter for therapeutic drug level monitoring
(reason for drug ex: afib)
Z79.01 - Use of anticoagulants
