Does anyone if a patient is inpatient but the provider is remote do we need to use any addt'l modifiers or POS? or would just be POS 21 for IP? or is this even allowed? I've been seeing this more and more in the Psych department. Thank You
Hi there, you'll need to check with each payer to determine their telehealth policy.
For Medicare you will report the visit with the correct POS (21 for inpatients) plus modifier 95 to indicate it was a telehealth visit. Be aware that Medicare has proposed that it will require POS 02 for patients who receive telehealth services in a place other than their home, but you'll need to check the final physician fee schedule rule, which typically comes out the first week of November.
