I'm about to begin billing physical therapy charges in North Carolina for a doc that has told me his relative doing physical therapy billing in New York told him there is a $50/day global maximum for physical therapy charges in New York. Charges above the $50/day are simply not reimbursed. I'm not sure if they write this off as contract adjustment or if it is "allowed" just not reimbursed and therefore becomes patient responsibility. I'm thinking this may be a New York idiosyncrasy and does not apply to North Carolina.

Any physical therapy billers in North Carolina care to respond? Also, I'd be curious to hear from any New York physical therapy billers that are confused about what I have been told. If it is the rule, is the greater than $50 written off or become patient responsibility?

Thanks,

Hunter Smith, CPC

ps the "doc" is not going to "do" the physical therapy, a physical therapist will be doing the work for the PT CPT codes.
