Does anyone know if I can bill tests on a patient, even if she left before actually seeing the doctor? We are an eye specialist and a patient checked in, was worked up, had test done on her eyes, but then decided she could not stay long enough to see the doctor. Do we have to eat those testing charges or can I bill her insurance?

Services rendered

You should be able to bill for the services rendered, make sure that the eye exam has been read by the doctor and there is dictation of the report. If I am not mistaken if the Dr. contacts the patient via phone and it is documented this is enough to bill for the services. There is a code for the conversation regarding the results over the phone, check your cpt book.
