I am new to Mental Health billing. Does anyone know
what code Medicare wants for the PTA charge. When we
have an interview code and a PTA code. Medicare is only
allowing the interview code. We have been using a H0002 (I think this is it)
for the PTA code but medicare says that we need to use
a valid cpt code instead of this H code. Can we bill for both?
 
PTA is the Pre Treatment Assessment that a provider does during the
first visit with the patient. At least that is what they are telling me.
Again, I am new to this.

I have never dealt with PTA's, but from what I am getting, it maybe could be billed as a 90801. It all depends on the documentation and how it reads.
I would not think you can bill both codes. 1) I believe it would be double dipping and 2) Medicare doesn't sound like they pay the H code, so it will be denied... if its any help, you can message me your email and I will email you back and we can take a look at an example note and I may be able to offer better advice..up to you
