Hi, I have a final diag of abdominal pain. the only place in the body of the report that is more specific is in the HPI which states upper left abdominal pain. can I use the HPI to be more specific in my diag coding?

Abd Pain

You probably could, however, the best thing to do is educate your provider and tell them to be as specific as possible. Especially with ICD10 coming, you could use this as an educational tool and tell them that it is in their best interest to be as specific as possible in their final diagnosis.
