my background was in er phy coding but am now working in a family practice. lab codes are new to me - so I would appreciate any guidance regarding lab codes. Can both 88142 and Q0091 be billed together? If so do you attach a modifier? Thanks for any help.

88142 is a code for the lab to charge and Q0091 is a code for the physician to charge for the PAP, but it is for Medicare. Some other payers accept it but some do not. However these 2 codes do not typically get billed together. For the Medicare Well Woman you charge Q0091 with the G0101. If you do the PAP in you office for a non Medicare patient and the payer does not accept the Q0091 the you do not code anything above the E&M or preventive level depending on why the patient is there.
