I have a question regarding modifier Q5.

Is it acceptable/appropriate to append a modifier Q5 to visits/services in the office provided by a physician assistant in the absence of the physician ?

I look forward to hearing any feedback on this,

I'm not sure what the purpose or benefit of doing this would be, but it is not appropriate modifier for the situation - Q5 is a modifier for a specific case, for use by a substitute physician with a reciprocal billing arrangement when a physician is unavailable to treat the patient and has set up this agreement with another doctor. It is not for use by PAs, who are required to be employees of a physician, not substitutes for them, in order to bill. If a PA is treating a patient in the absence of a physician, the services can only be billed under the PA's own credentials because that visit would not meet the requirements for billing 'incident to' a physician.
