We had a patient that came in for lab work on the 12th. These labs were billed with the date of service as September 12th. The provider then wanted to order some additional tests off of the original blood specimens. Our billing office and lab dept are in disagreement on what date the additional labs should be billed with. The billing office states that the lab should be billed as the date that the additional labs were ordered. Which way is correct? Thanks!

Surgical pathology specimens re. DOS

Hello, I am looking at this issue but more specifically related to surgical pathology specimens. It is not always a molecular test (specifically) that is added on to an archived specimen. Both Paget and the Medicare "14-day rule" talk about archival tissue and molecular testing specifically. But what about new IHC stains or other supplemental testing that could be ordered on a surgical pathology specimen after 14 or 30 days? What is the DOS in those cases? Is it the same rule?
Thanks for the help in advance!
Laura
