When coding a patient with multiple Vit defs, and the dictation does specify 5 or 6 different ones, for example Zinc, B1, B6, B12, iron, Vit D....should you code each individual one or just do 269.2 for Vitamin Deficiency (multiple) NEC?
Or should you put an individual code for each one as long as it's in the book, but if it's not stated in the book, THEN just put 269.2 for them and the individual codes for the others??
I would appreciate your replies. Thanks!!

Unspecified Codes

I would stay away from the 269.2 if the actual vitamin deficiencies have codes. Unspecified codes are always the codes of last resort.
