Wiki Question regarding new consult reporting with -AI

I do coding for a hospitalist group, and we do a lot of admissions. Occasionally, the patient is immediately admitted to critical care on the first day of stay, and we are reporting critical care codes. Do we or do we not report the -AI modifier? My guess is no, because the whole point of the -AI modifier is to distinguish between an admission and a consult.
Please let me know what you think.

AI modifier

According to what I've been reading, the AI modifier was created to delineate the "pricipal physician of record". I've not found anything to indicate that the modifier can only be used w/ e/m codes 99221-99223.

Anyone?
