I work for an anesthesiology group and we service many colonoscopies. I frequently see the providers document 'erythematous mucosa' in the intestines, typically a biopsy is taken for histology. Does anyone know what ICD code I would use for this? It is not classified as gastritis or colitis, but that is where the index points me for 'inflammation'. The erythematous codes bring you to the section on skin. Since we only code for the anesthesia services I have the OP report but we do not get the pathology reports to code off.
