Hi,
I have a patient who is getting a cancer screening test. They have given codes z80.3, c56.9 & c18.9. It says she hasn't been diagnosed with cancer. She has family history of colon, breast and ovarian. Z80.3 is a good code for this, but I'm having trouble with the other two codes. If I'm reading correctly c56.9 & c18.9 are codes that say this patient has cancer. Am I reading that correctly?
Thank you,
April

Yes c18.9 and c56.9 both indicate that the patient has been diagnosed with two different malignant primary neoplasms. Do not use these codes if you cannot verify that this is the case. If these are screenings for neoplasm then use the z12 codes for screening
