We sometimes have specimens that are insufficient. We used to use V72.6 for the dx. This year there's a 5th code. Any better codes that you can think of?

Thank you.

v72.6

Hi,

Do you mean that 2010 of ICD-9CM Diagnosis code V72.6. There are 5 ICD-9-CM codes below V72.6 that define this diagnosis in greater detail. (Do not use this code on a reimbursement claim)?
- V72.60
Laboratory examination, unspecified
- V72.61
Antibody response examination
- V72.62
Laboratory examination ordered as part of a routine general medical examination
- V72.63
Pre-procedural laboratory examination
- V72.69
Other laboratory examination

Good luck ;)

This may be a little late. Haven't checked the posting in a while. Take a look at dx 795.08(cervical smear) or 795.18(vaginal smear). I'm "assuming" you are referring to cytology specimens.

If we are not talking about cytology smears, I don't think you should be billing at all for "tissue insufficient for diagnosis." No diagnosis = no patholigcal service rendered. Nothing to code.
