My docs like to specify conditions as recalcitrant or refractory, meaning non-responsive to treatment. I am wondering if anyone has run across a ICD 9 code that can be used to indicate that the primary dx is recalcitant or refractory? There is a code V 15.81 that is listed in the index under "recalcitrant" but it is referring to a patient who is non-compliant with treatment. Thanks!!
