How does one code for rectal strep A? The provider put B95.0 however UHC doesn't like that as the primary diagnosis. Thank you.

Rectal strep

Codes in categories B95-B97 are never the first or only diagnosis. With a diagnosis of rectal strep A infection, I would ask the physician for a more specific diagnosis. If there is dermatitis caused by the strep, you could report L30.3 (infective dermatitis). If there is infection of the rectum, then the ICD-10 index refers to K62.89. Another option is L08.9 which is referenced from the index entries for infection, skin.

I hope that helps.
