I'm trying to find info on how to bill for a screening breast ultrasound due to dense breasts. There is a law in NJ going into effect this year that mandates insurance coverage for screening breast ultrasounds however it's unclear whether we need to bill using a screening dx code or just use 793.82 to identify that the exam is due to dense breasts. I know there are a couple other states that also mandate coverage so maybe someone can let me know their experience. Also trying to find out if insurance companies are covering this the same as screening mammos or if it would be applied to the patient's deductible, coinsurance, etc. Thanks!
