Job Description
Position Title: Reimbursement Specialist Reports to: Billing Supervisor
Department: Order To Cash Position Hours: 7a to 4p; 8a to 5p
Salary/Hourly Range: $15.00 to $18.00 per hour Bonus/Incentive: None

MISSION
Reimbursement Specialists are responsible for various functions in Verus Billing department including Patient Account Representative, Billing Specialist, Cash Posting Specialist, Charge Posting Specialist, Credit Balance Specialist and Insurance Eligibility Specialist. The Reimbursement Specialist acts as a floater among teams as necessary, as well as working on special projects and other reimbursement-related functions at the direction of the Team Lead, Supervisor or designee.
OUTCOMES
1. Perform essential functions of Verus Billing teammates.
a. Understand key tasks in the Billing, Collections, Cash Posting, Charge Posting, Credit Balance and Insurance Eligibility teams.
b. Fill in for vacancies and acute needs in teams on an ?as-needed? basis.
c. Effectively utilize Excel and other system tools to maximize efficiency.
d. Respond to coaching opportunities during scheduled and ad hoc one-on-one meetings with Team Lead.

2. Complete special projects and other reimbursement-related tasks as needed.
a. Assist in the management and resolution of inquiries from other departments about patient accounts and orders.
b. Research and respond to requests for additional information via email and system generated tickets.
c. Maintain records of requests and resolution in order to monitor timeliness and accuracy of responses.
d. Effectively utilize Excel and other system tools to maximize efficiency.

COMPETENCIES
 Understanding of a volume-based production environment
 Strong claim accounting and problem solving skills
 Strong communication skills and phone etiquette
 Clarity and accuracy in documenting work performed
 Good computer application skills, specifically MS Excel
 Brightree software experience a plus
 Experience billing insurance companies in numerous states also a plus



JOB QUALIFICATIONS
 5-6 years of previous healthcare reimbursement experience
 3-4 years of experience in insurance billing, collections, credits or documentation
 Significant and relevant success in one or more billing roles in which a high degree of output and quality were demonstrated

EQUIPMENT, TOOLS AND WORK AIDS:
Phone System, Personal Computer (Desktop or Laptop) and appropriate software applications, Calculator, Printer, Facsimile Machine, Scanner and other office equipment as necessary or assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARDS:
Air conditioned, sheltered work environment with little or no exposure to hazardous or toxic airborne materials.
May be sitting for long periods of time; may be required to perform tasks requiring repetitive hand movements.
No environmental hazards indicated for this classification.
STRENGTH REQUIREMENT:
Sedentary Work: Seated for the better part of the day performing functions of an administrative or clerical nature; may require stooping, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, shifting or carrying of objects of up to 15 lbs on occasion. May perform tasks of a repetitive nature; i.e. keyboarding, calculating, etc. Has a moderate degree of control within the work environment; can modify placement of portable equipment; lighting and furniture, with approval.
TYPE OF PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Acuity near: Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less with or without correction.
Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Talking is important for those activities in which workers must impart oral information to clients or to the public, and in those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly. Must be clear in discussing product and requirement for compliance with federal regulations to complete order.
Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds. Hearing is important for those activities which require ability to receive detailed information through oral communications. Incumbent should display patience with clients who may have language challenges or their own hearing issues. Bi-lingual assistance is available, in most cases. Hearing disabilities may be accommodated depending on severity or essential tasks of position.
