Hello all,

Our company is considering having us coders go remote. What are your experiences, both pros and cons.

Thanks,
Jeanette, CPC-A

I've never worked remote but here are some of the Prod and Cons I've been given by people I know who work from home. Some overlap between pro and con as it can depend on what company policies may be. Not an inclusive list

Pro:
-Work from home (work in Pajamas, no dreadful getting up extra early)
-Flexible hours (depending on employer, comes in handy if you have children)
-Less expenses (Car, less gas, no tolls, home cooked meals vs eating out, possible tax deductions on home office
-No traffic.

Con:
-IT issues (Many of these are easier to deal with at work) This is especially a big thing in the beginning
-Harder to communicate with co-workers since you cant just walk up to them if you have a question
-Slow VPN
-More distractions
-Needing a home office (when you live somewhere with no dedicated space)
