We have a surgery scheduled for removal of a plate and 4 screws (Oral Surgery, Jaw). Using code 20680, is it reported only once for the removal of the plate and 4 screws, or do you report for each piece removed? I think it's once, but my oral surgeon wanted me to verify. Thanks for any assistance!

you would only bill it once.

Good aaos article june 2004 bulletin regarding this.

ex: if you billed orif trimal fx - then all hardware removal related to that fx is billed only 1 time, even though different locations (medial /lateral/post)

Thanks for the quick reply, and confirming my thoughts. The article was helpful. Again thanks for your assistance!:)
