Can I get some advice on a CPT code. My provider removed mesh that was adherent to the bladder during his prostatectomy. I understand removal of mesh laparoscopically is 49999. What CPT code do I benchmark this to? Also what ICD 10 code would I use??

So if the procedure was performed as laparoscopically you would use 49329 because it is a laparoscopic unlisted code. However, if you procedure was open then 49999 would be more appropriate. I would code if the procedure was laparoscopic 49329 with the prostatectomy, and the comparable code for 49329 if laparoscopic 49402, but if done as an open procedure i would use 49402 as the removal of foreign body. I don't really have a lot of information to go on. Not sure what the mesh was used for before hand, maybe a hernia, but if its adhered to the bladder but nothing happened to the bladder like no repair. I would say it is in the abdomen area. Hence the reason I chose the codes I did.
