Order states RENAL & BLADDER US for chronic UTI's

Findings: The kidneys are normal in size, contour, and echogenicity. The right kidney measures 8.8 x 3.3 x 3.9 cm and the left kidney measures 9.3 x 3.8 x 3.5 cm. The aortic bifurcation is unremarkable. The pre-void bladder volume meausre 43 cc and the post-void bladder volume measures 2 cc. The bladder as not distended with much urine and there was bladder wall thickening, presumably related to the nondistended state. No hydronephrosis or other significant abnormalities were seen. The iliac vessels were grossly unremarkable

Impression: Grossly unremarkable study with a poorly distended bladder.

Would in be appropriate to bill both 76770 and 76857-59?

Renal Ultrasound is 76700, if the bladder is mentioned. If you are only doing the bladder and not giving the measurements you state, it is a 76857 limited. Renal limited is 76775 (when the bladder is not mentioned)

No you only use 76770 it includes the bladder. The only time you use 76857 is bladder only exam. You have a Renal and Bladder, 76770 covers renal entirely, with the bladder and it has to be mentioned in that report to get use 76770. 2nd paragraph of Ab & Retroperitoneum states this.
