Repair of Ventral Hernia, initial or recurrent?

I would like another opinion on this, the physician has a patient that has persistent pain at previous hernia repair. He does an abdominal exploration with removal of prosthetic and repair of ventral hernia. Would you consider this an initial hernia repair or recurrent hernia repair? Thank You

I would think it's a recurrent hernia. Pt had a previous hernia repair, prosthetic (mesh?) and a 'repair of ventral hernia'...sounds recurrent to me.
