Wiki Residential Care Facility individual psychotherpy

When a pt has individual psychotherapy sessions and it runs for 55 minutes... the CPT codes are for 45-50 minutes then it goest to 75-80 minutes.... do I chose the one for 45-50 or 75-80?

CPT codes are 90818 & 90821

You cant do the second one because its more than what your looking for...you might get in trouble for that...anyway its only 5 minutes more.

I would not code for 75-80 min as documentation does not support. I code for DOD (department of defense) and what guidelines show is that we code to the lesser and add modifier 22. As always, documentation would need to support use of. Hope this helps.

I would code 90818 and append modifer 22 to it.
