When a patient came to the Emergency Department for SOB, and was diagnosed and treated for Severe Sepsis, our ED provider's Final Diagnosis was "Pneumonia". When I queried this provider whether the patient had Severe Sepsis, his response was "Pt met severe sepsis criteria during visit but was treated and no longer met by discharge".

My feeling is that the provider should have included Severe Sepsis in the Final Diagnosis. It was treated. It effects the medical decision making.

Please let me know your opinions as I am not getting any response from my team.

Thank you!

Could be wrong but even if treated patient came in with Sepsis and should be mentioned in diagnosis.

Waiting for others to confirm or deny
